A Rebuttal Chain is a structured debate attached to any opinion on Opiniyun. When you want to challenge an opinion, you do not just leave a comment — you create a Rebuttal, which is a structured counter-argument.

The original poster can then respond to your Rebuttal. You can respond to their response. And so on, up to five layers deep.

The result is a logical chain of argument — a structured debate that builds on itself, rather than collapsing into noise.

Why Five Layers?

The five-layer limit is deliberate.

In practice, most genuine debates resolve within three or four exchanges. If you have been going back and forth for five rounds and have not reached any kind of resolution — either agreement, acknowledged disagreement, or a clear impasse — the debate has probably stopped being productive.

The five-layer limit forces both sides to make their best arguments efficiently. It prevents debates from dragging on indefinitely. And it creates a natural endpoint that both sides can accept.

How Rebuttal Chains Differ from Comment Sections

The difference between a Rebuttal Chain and a comment section is structural.

In a comment section, every reply is at the same level. A thoughtful counter-argument looks identical to a one-line insult. There is no way to follow a logical chain of argument. The debate collapses into noise.

How to Write a Good Rebuttal

A good Rebuttal has three components:

A specific challenge. Do not just say "I disagree." Explain specifically what you disagree with and why. "I disagree with your claim that X, because Y" is a Rebuttal. "I disagree" is not.

Your reasoning. Explain the logic behind your counter-argument. What evidence supports your position? What assumptions is the original opinion making that you think are wrong?

A clear conclusion. What do you think the correct position is? A Rebuttal that only challenges the original opinion without offering an alternative is less useful than one that offers a clear counter-position.
